Little Rock Nine
Little Rock Central High School played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement. After the landmark Supreme Court decision of Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, ruling that segregation in public schools is unconstitutional, the Little Rock Nine attempted to integrate into Little Rock Central High School, which was met with intense opposition from fellow students, government officials, and the Arkansas National Guard.
The standoff drew national attention, and after legal and political battles, the Little Rock Nine eventually made their way into the previously all-white school.
